Carroll Attends Dedication of Historic F-86 Sabre Jet
John Carroll was among dozens of veteran pilots who joined active duty Air Force pilots at Hickam Air Force Base to dedicate a memorial F-86. The plane will be displayed at the airbase with other warbirds from different eras of military aviation. The F-86 Sabre Jet is painted and marked as one flown by Korean War Ace Lt. Gen. “Bones” Marshall. It carries his name for the plane, “Bones V,” as well as red stars for his 7 1/2 kills and 6 damaged enemy aircraft.
Among those also attending was World War II Ace Lt. Gen. Sandy Moats, who served in the European theater.
Coincidently, this same aircraft is the one that John Carroll qualified in for gunnery school when serving with Hawaii’s Air National Guard.
